My Top 5 Favorite Clothing Boutiques For Creating Epic Photos

March 5, 2019

A phrase I hear so often as a photographer is, ” Wow their photos turned out amazing, I want my photos to look like that.” There are obviously many moving parts that go into amazing photos like being comfortable with your photographer or selecting the perfect location but one part many people put on the back burners are their outfits.

Some may say that your outfits don’t matter when it comes to your family or engagement photos. That the photographer should be able to get the perfect photos regardless of what you are wearing. There are many reasons I believe this statement is not true.

A great outfit should set the style for your session, are you modern, boho, edgy, or country? What you wear tells people a lot about who you are and if it doesn’t, it should!

Outfits create cohesiveness (note: I did not say match) through a shoot, your outfits should not only flatter the two of you but also fit with the location’s color palette you’ve chosen for your session. Overwhelmed? Don’t be. I’ll help you with all of this.

Lastly, your outfit should feel like you, you should feel comfortable and confident in what you are wearing, this truly makes the difference in getting those authentic photos.

Sometimes it can be hard to find quality outfits that truly fit your style. That’s why I wanted to give you my five go-to boutiques that I’m positive you can find the outfit you’re looking for. Oh, and did I mention, I guarantee you they will photograph well!:)

1)American Eagle – I mainly suggest buying jeans here. They tend to have a great variety and sizes for tall chicks and guys!

2) Bohme– I love how Bohme plays with a lot of muted colors. Muted colors are fabulous to photograph. They also have a very artsy and adventurous type style which really creates a cool vibe.

3) Lulus– I have had so many of my brides buy dresses from here and they are all beautiful and great quality. If you are looking for a romantic long dress to capture an epic photo, here’s your shop!

4) Roolee– Patterns, patterns, patterns… if you want to add a bit of spunk to your outfit but don’t want to overdo it, Roolee has amazing unique clothes including, sweaters, dresses, skirts, pants and so much more. Did I mention they have kids clothing too?

5) Vici Collections– This store has it all. Seriously, they have such a great variety of all types of clothing surely you will be able to find something that fits your style. Whether you’re looking for a cute winter sweater or a summery romper, they have it!

Bonus) GigiPipp– High-quality hats! These guys have a great variety of hats to fit any face. Not a hat person, try these guys out. Hats make a perfect prop/accessory for your session.

Before you start shopping, reach out to your photographer and start planning with them. Together, we can pick out the perfect color palette for your session. Don’t be afraid to splurge a little when picking out your clothing for your session, it can be in your closet already but definitely doesn’t have to. If you have ideas, send them my way, I can’t wait to see them.

Xoxo, Mariah Elise
